About Kadalekayi parshe (ಕಡಲೇಕಾಯಿ ಪರ್ಷೆ )

This is an event held at Basavanagudi, in the area near the Bull Temple and Sunkenahalli.  It is held every year, on the last Monday of the Karthika masa (ಕಾರ್ತಿಕ ಮಾಸ).  Ground nuts in different forms are sold at the event.  Popular forms are: raw ground nuts, fried ground nuts and ground nuts boiled in water and salted.  Traditionally, the ground nuts are eaten with a small amount of jaggery.

Got stunned (cheated?) by buying at Pamadi Jewellers

Bought a gold nose pin for Smitha at Pamadi Jewellers at a cost of Rs. 860.  And got stunned (cheated??) after I did my calculations after coming home.  The weight of nosepin was 140mg, and the gold rate today in Bangalore according to the shopkeeper is Rs. 2902 (though some websites show it to be Rs. 2860).  Which means, according to the shopkeeper, going my the weight of gold, the nose pin should have cost 0.140*2902 = Rs. 406.  And he has charged Rs. 860.  Now, when I enquire him on phone, he says nose pins are not rated as per gold weight, they are given a rate per piece. :O

How to pop a git stash that was not the last stashed

However, if you want to pop a git stash that was not the last one stashed, you need to use

git stash pop stash@{n}

For example, when following are the stashes (given by git stash list):

stash@{0}: On master: Uncommitted changes before update operation at 04/09/13 9:02 AM

stash@{2}: On refactor: Checkout migration at 09/07/13 8:54 AM
stash@{3}: On master: Checkout refactor at 08/07/13 11:00 PM
stash@{4}: On refactor: Checkout master at 08/07/13 10:59 PM
stash@{5}: On master: Checkout bug-456231 at 05/07/13 9:37 AM

the following command pops and applies stash@{3}:

git stash pop stash@{3}

Lal Bagh visit during deepavali

We had been to Lal Bagh yesterday (Sunday, 3 Nov 2013) along with dad, mom, Smitha, and Amruth.  We had an adventurous experience since we got stuck in rain which in the middle of a walk around the lake.  Luckily, Amruth was in his pram during that time, and we had carried a blanket with us, which we used to shelter him from the rain.  Here are some snaps:

Trip to Koushika

We had been to Sri Lakshmi Keshava Temple at Koushika, Hassan on 1 Sep, 2013.  Here are some snaps of the trip.

We had been to Hotel Aadhyaa's Athithi.  We had idly and vada, which was good.  However, the coffee was bad.  The hotel also had stuff for children, including a cycle, bike and a car.

On the way back, we have been to Hotel Mayur and had coffee there.  It was good.

BetterTouchTool to enhance gestures of MagicMouse

Just tried out BetterTouchTool for the MagicMouse I use with my mac, since I was never happy with the limited functionality of the MagicMouse as compared with the touchpad.  BetterTouchTool is awesome!  I now get almost all the features of the touchpad, and even more, on the MagicMouse, with the help of BetterTouchTool.  Visit http://www.boastr.de/ to download the tool.

Watched the Hindi movie Raajhanaa

Watched the Hindi movie Raajhanaa (राझणा) with Smitha today at PVR Cinema, Forum Mall, Koramangala. We would rate it 3 out of 5. Was quite a good movie for time-pass. But, felt many of the events in the movie unrealistic. Not a kind of movie that one would like to watch again and again.

Extreme zone, Bangalore

Had been to extreme zone, at Manchenbele village in Ramanagaram, Bangalore with my colleagues today.  It was a place good for adventure.  Needed to walk in between hilly regions for about twenty minutes to reach the spot after parking our vehicle. That was tiring.  We did repelling, paint ball, rope walking and boating. There were a few kayaks and a boat when we went.

There was arrangement for breakfast and lunch there, but very limited variety.  We had idli, vada and sambar for breakfast. For lunch, we had poori, palya, rice, sambar, buttermilk and shavige payasa. We were also served very tasty chilly bajji, tea and coffee in the evening.

My experience of getting the signature of a gazetted officer

Needed the signature of a gazetted officer for a domicile certificate for a document.  Hence, had been to the Tahsildar's office today.  Writing this post to record my experience.  Went to the Tahsildar's office in the 4th floor at 10:20.  The Tahsildar was not there.  A peon there directed me to the sub registrar's office in the 2nd floor. The sub registrar, being a gazetted officer, refused to sign the document saying that domicile certificates are supposed to be given by the Tahsildar. Again, went back to the Tahsildar's office and by this time, the Tahsildar had arrived.  The Tahsildar asked me to get a caste
certificate from the regional office of our area in order to give the domicile certificate.  Dejected, I went down to the hotel in the ground floor, had a coffee there and came out of the office in order to catch a bus to go back to home. Luckily, I found a High Court advocate sitting outside the office with a board. This guy was also a notary public. He was signing such documents for people and collecting money. An advocate of the High Court is a gazetted officer.  Approached this guy.  He asked a few questions and finally signed the document.

Problem with my new Airtel connection

I got my new Airtel mobile prepaid connection activated yesterday.  In the application form itself, I had asked for 3G.  After the phone got activated, I assumed 3G must be active and started downloading stuff.  After using about 12MB, I realized the speeds are low and contacted customer care and came to know that 3G is not activated.  I came to know that I had used 2G and would be billed accordingly (10p/10KB).  This is horrible.  Can Airtel ensure that my 2G usage is billed with my 3G plan, since I had actually requested for 3G in the application?
